Costa Rica gives you the warmest welcome! We are very proud of having the opportunity of hosting the AAI Congress 1999. It's been many years since AIESECers form our country have dreamed to have the chance wehave today and now we know we are going one step ahead trying to turnthis dream into a reality. We believe in our potential and assure you that we will do all our best to organize an incredible experience.We are very anxious to share our culture and all our country's beauty and magic with you, and we want to motivate all members from ourcountry around a multicultural experience.

The natural, untouched beauty of this unique paradise, where gentlefriendly people are eager to share the wonder of their small democraticcountry. There are miles of secluded beaches on two oceans, high mountain rainforest, and dense tropical jungle with an incredible arrayof birds and wildlife.

The Congress will take place at the Hotel Iraz? which is located inthe heart of the Central Valley, five miles from the internationalairport, and a short drive from San Jos? the capital city. This Hotelhas 325 rooms elegantly furnished, air-conditioned and equipped with satellite color TV, a Casino, an outdoor swimming pool, and lightedtennis courts. There is also a shopping center located next door to thehotel with souvenir shops, bank, grocery store, pharmacy and more.The prices (per person) for Congress are $300 in a triple room, $325 ina double room and $380 in a single room, if you book before August 1.After that date, all prices will be raised with $100. No bookings canbe taken after October1.

Before the Congress there will be a Study Tour around one of the mostbeautiful Volcanoes in Latin America, the Arenal Volcano, and after theCongress, there will be another Study Tour in Guanacaste, where you'llmeet the most exotic beaches in the world. The price of these studytours has not been entirely fixed yet, but each will be around $300.Hoping to have you here in this great Congress

COSTA RICA IN GENERAL

?nbsp;      Costa Rica is situated in Central America.
?nbsp;      Its frontiers are to the North with Nicaragua, to the South withPanama and it is located between the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean.
?nbsp;      Its total area is 51.100 square kilometers.
?nbsp;      Population is about 3.500.000 inhabitants.

SMOKING

In areas where smoking is not allowed there are signs, so look out forthose. In public transportation smoking is not allowed, as in alloffice buildings

TELEPHONE

Phonebooths can be found here and there in all sites. You can sometimesfind a phonebooth which accepts coins, but most often you will need aphonecard.  These can be purchased in the stores and pharmacies.Phonecards cost from 500 to 2000 colones.   To make an international phone call, you must dial 00, then country code, area code and phonenumber.  To make international collect calls, dial 116 and follow themachine’s instructions.

COMPUTERS

The CC will have a special room during the congress with computers and free access to internet.  You can also use the Hotel’s computer withaccess to the net paying a small amount per hour.

INFORMATION DESK

The information desk is located in the CC Office on the conferencefloor at Hotel Irazu. It will be open all days during day-time, exceptduring the Business Day.

Contact the CC office in conference area or the hotel lobby.

Situated in the CC office on the conference area, opens all days from 8am to 6 pm.

ALCOHOL POLICY

According to Costa Rican law, persons under 18 years of age are notallowed to buy or consume alcohol.  In the parties delegates can bringa maximum of 2 bottles of liquor because the hotel will be charging a$1.50 fee for each bottle opened.  Delegates are allowed to have andconsume alcohol in their own rooms.

EMERGENCY NUMBER

In Costa Rica the emergency number is 911. In case of emergency, dial911 and state your name, location and what kind of help you need. Ifyou call from a phone boot you don’t need either a phone card or coins.

GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE TICOS?PUNCTUALITY

Costa Ricans are usually late at almost everything.  Being even 15minutes late is considered very normal, so if you get to meet withsomebody and he’s late, try to understand this cultural difference.

SECURITY GUIDELINES

?nbsp;      Your badge must be worn at all times.
?nbsp;      No access to conference-rooms or plenary without badges.
?nbsp;      Labels all items you are carrying with your name and country.
?nbsp;      No illegal substances are allowed at any time (this includes marijuana, speed and all sorts of drugs)
?nbsp;      Use the hotel security deposit boxes for your values.
?nbsp;      Be careful in San Jos?of experiencing a stolen wallet or camera.

WAKE-UP CALLS

The Congress Committee will wake you up, though not force you to wakeup.  We strongly urge you to respect the wake-ups.  If you want a wakeup call please contact the hotel front desk.

POST

Stamps area available in hotel reception.  The mail is collected everyweekday before noon.  Postage for sending a postcard within the UnitedStates or Latin America is 200 colones and to the rest of the world of300 colones.

BANKING

For currency exchange, the hotel reception is at your service.  Youmight get a better exchange rate if you turn to a bank.  There is banknear the Hotel Iraz? located in the commercial center next to it.Opening hours are Mon-Fri 9:00-16:00, except weekends.

PHARMACY

In case of accidents, contact the OC office as soon as possible ?theyknow exactly what to do in order to get the right treatment.

TRANSPORTATION

Transports are arranged in connection to the scheduled events.  Pleasemake sure to be on time as we are in a tight schedule.  If you wouldlike to go other places at other times please contact the CC office forinformation about the local community.

At your arrival to Costa Rica we will have buses going round from thehotel to the airport and vice versa to assure you have transportation.Anyway, if you arrive to early or have problems in arrival and are notable to catch buses, first contact the CC to see what they can do foryou or be prepared to take a cab to Hotel Iraz?  The amount that one cab can charge you for this transport should not be more than 2.000colones.
